They tore down the public library in Brooklyn Heights and put a tall building in its place. They put doctor offices in the building, with large windows. Right behind the building as I look straight down is the apartment building my mom lived in for about 25 years, and I remember that. Then I look up and out over the East River to lower Manhattan, and I snap a photo. I do this each time I’m here, and it’s always a moment suspended in time.
